Whether you’re a business owner, influencer, or are even just looking to up-level your personal Instagram page, batch planning (AKA batch creating) content is a term that you need to know. Getting some kind of batch planning system in place is a vital part of streamlining your social media so you’re not left scrambling for content last minute.
We know what you’re thinking. If it’s so important to know, then what the hell is batch planning anyway?
The term batch planning sounds a little bit like making cookies - and it kind of is! Batch planning content for social media is when you plan out exactly what kind of content and how much of it you need for a certain period of time, and then create all of that content at once. This includes shooting photo or video content, creating graphics, putting together hashtags and writing captions. This process looks so different for each person / business depending on the industry, personality, content type and posting schedule for the page.

That’s why we’ve put together a little how-to for when it comes to batch planning content so that you can make the process as easy as possible:
First and foremost, you need a content strategy so that all of your posts have a purpose. Having a strategy (complete with content pillars) will help you create cohesive content across platforms and give your brand variation without randomness. Once you have the strategic foundation set, sit down and make a big list. Write down every idea for content that you can think of. As long as it connects to your strategy in some way, no idea is a bad idea! Double check your ideas when you're done to make sure that each of them fits into one of your content pillars. If any of them don’t, try to tweak them before crossing them off your list completely.
Now it’s time for the fun part - THE VISION! Put together a moodboard for what type of aesthetic you want to create for your content. This includes lighting, outfits, colors, settings, etc. Have fun with this, but also keep your brand imagery, colors and overall vibe in mind as you establish the vision.
After developing a clear vision of what you want, gather any props, clothing, back drops, etc. that you need. Hire a photographer or take pics yourself if you have the ability. You don’t always need an insanely expensive camera or fancy equipment. A lot of content - especially for social media - can simply be shot on a phone!
FINALLY, it’s time to actually shoot your content. You can refer back to the original list you made to determine exactly what and how much content you need. Then go for it! Just remember to save it in a safe place for posting later.
Once you have all your content, start scheduling it out for the week, two weeks or month. Use a scheduling tool if you need one (i.e. Later, Planoly, etc.) to get all of your content and captions scheduled.
