5 BUSINESS ORGANIZATION TIPS for the MODERN ENTREPRENEUR

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

Happy Monday! And welcome to another week in the life as a business owner.

Sitting down to start a new week can feel very overwhelming with a full list of to-dos ahead of you. Using organization tactics to pull yourself together for the week can help relieve the stress that tasks might fall through the cracks. Here are five things you can implement to stay organized as a business owner.

1. USE A PLANNER / CALENDAR

If you haven’t implemented a solid planner / calendar system in your life and business, it’s time to start! This is KEY in staying organized. Getting a physical planner or using a digital calendar to get all of your meetings, tasks and events in order can help you feel a bit more grounded for the week. Sometimes it can even be satisfying to just see everything down on a piece of paper - then you don’t have to rely on remembering to keep you on track. Our favorite is Google Calendar (especially when you color code it).

2. KEEP EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE

Simplify the number of apps, programs and papers that you’re using for your business. We promise this will be a game changer in business organization. If you’re writing multiple to-do lists, keep them all in one notebook. If you’re trying to keep your clients managed and organized, keep all of your clients within ONE client management program. Consolidating your business onto as little platforms as possible will help you to keep your business operations simple and organized.

3. CREATE SYSTEMS AND WORKFLOWS

This goes hand-in-hand with the first two tips, but the more parts of your business that you can automate and move into a system, the less work you have on your hands. If you can create a system of email templates, you’ll spend less time writing emails. And so on and so forth. It’ll even be a bonus if you can consolidate your business onto a small number of platforms AND automate them!

4. MAKE ORGANIZATION A RITUAL

Creating rituals around organizing your work can help make it more focused and fun! Take some time to sit down and map out your to-dos for the day before getting started. This can help you feel much more grounded and focused for the day. You can even backtrack to the beginning of the WEEK and take some time on a Sunday or Monday to brain dump anything that needs to get done throughout the week. This can be so calming and fun and won’t even take you as long as you think!

5. DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP

If you try all of these things and are STILL drowning in work, it might be time to ask for help. Think of the parts of your business that don’t spark joy in you. Think of the things that eat away at the precious hours of your day - all while feeling frustrated about the time spent. These might be things that you can pass on to someone else or have someone else manage. Having help can keep you organized and on track because you simply don’t have as much to manage!

We all have very different ways of processing information and organizing our lives. Staying organized is very subjective because everyone has different systems and setups that work for them. With that being said, organize your business in the way that makes the most sense for you! If you give a system a couple of months and it’s still not working out for you, switch and try something new. It can take a while to get completely organized, but it will be 100% worth it in the long run!
